Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on Wednesday said that a truce government, as proposed by Kelemen Hunor of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), could be thought of if no other formula is found, but he no longer trusts the Social Democratic Party (PSD), "which destroyed the governing coalition."
"A truce government, a transitional government, if a formula is not found, can be thought of. We discussed this some time ago. But we have seen in these months what has happened. Such a government can be made up of a technical area, but which has support in Parliament, or a political government. But when you were in a coalition with a party that did not respect its agreements, when you were in a coalition with a party with which you had a governing plan that you tried to put into practice, which it did not respect, which constantly created problems, that when you have to make reforms, to correct things, it didn't support them... We gave the law on the reform in the administration and since the spring, since the fall of the government, we should have had a 10% reduction in the staff in the ministries. It was postponed. We should have the health measures to rearrange things in such a way that we can carry the money, as much as we have, efficiently. We should have increased the retirement age in sectors where retirement can be done today at 50. All these measures would have reduced some expenses and would have given a perspective," Bolojan told Digi 24 private broadcaster.
He added that when a government decision regulating the implementation of a law made by the PSD labour minister under which young people who do not have jobs are supported to be employed, "it means that you do not affect this government, but you affect those young people."
"So, when you have such attitudes that show that you are able to simply harm the country just to achieve your political goals, what are the guarantees to associate yourself with such a party?" he said.
Bolojan was also asked why President Nicusor Dan abandoned him.
"I don't see the problem in that perspective. The President has his prerogatives that he exercises as he deems appropriate, and the government and the prime minister have the prerogatives that he exercises as he can or deems appropriate. We had a coalition that the PSD destroyed, which, with good or bad, managed to get Romania out of the dead end it was in last summer, but they generated a crisis that led us to this situation. Of course, it would have been good, I think, if the president, before the motion, had made the calls for responsibility that he made afterwards.
