Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Wednesday that the blockade at the beginning of the week at the airline TAROM was "a big mistake - towards the customer, towards Romanians," stressing that it is everyone's right to go on an "announced strike," but no one should resort to "artifices" that put passengers "on the road or sleeping in the airport."
He responded, thus, when asked about the fact that TAROM pilots have obtained salary increases of 1,500 euros, after previously, some of them did not show up for work, declaring themselves "unfit to fly," which led to the cancellation of dozens of flights scheduled for Monday of this week.
"I think that Mr. Grindeanu can explain, Mr. Grindeanu as a minister, but the most entitled are the members of the Board of Directors, because they run the company. No dialog was found and they resorted to this system, this crack in the collective labor contract. In my opinion, it was a very big mistake to the customers', Romanians' interest. Because you have to announce it - it's everyone's right to go on strike, but neither I nor anyone else has any right to resort to such artifices, so as to make people go back and forth or to sleep in the airport," said Marcel Ciolacu.
He added that such an approach is not correct in a "developed and democratic" state like Romania.
"I think that it was a mistake and I hope that those who were involved in this have realised by now that this is not the right approach in a developed and democratic state like Romania," the prime minister added.
