Prime minister Dacian Ciolos informed President Klaus Iohannis on Monday about consultations with the parties earlier in the day, on the possible changes to the election law.
"I have only informed him [the President] about the talks I had and about my conclusions. He has never imposed on me a point of view. I've always taken my own decisions and I assume them," Ciolos told media at the Government headquarters.
The prime minister had already announced that the Government will not issue any emergency ordinance to restore the two-round system in local elections, and left the decision to the Parliament, which has decided last year for a one-round system. He mentioned that the Government will support any decision of the Legislative on this matter, which has grown lately into an intense political debate in Romania.
President Iohannis had publicly pronounced himself for two-round elections, and insisted that the parliamentary parties and the government are responsible for "the wisest solution."AGERPRES
