PM Ciuca: PNL wants to ensure governance, I did not request to take over any UDMR ministry.

Prime minister Nicolae Ciuca declared on Tuesday that, formally, the National Liberal Party (PNL) did not request, in the context of the preparation of the government rotation, to take over any of the ministries currently held by the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), stressing that the government will be ensured with responsibility, told Agerpres.

He was asked if the PNL wants to take over the Ministry of the Environment, a portfolio held by the UDMR, and how he comments on a possible departure from the government of the formation led by Kelemen Hunor.

"The National Liberal Party wants absolutely nothing, we want to continue to ensure the governance of the country, as we have done until now. We want to ensure political stability, we need this stability now, more than ever. I want to emphasize that, both together with the coalition partners, and in the meetings we have with representatives of the authorities in the country, but also with representatives of the embassies and in the bilateral meetings we have had, they all ask how we will ensure the governance of Romania and I answer to everyone that we will ensure governance with responsibility," said Nicolae Ciuca.

Asked about the fact that UDMR representatives were officially informed that the PNL wanted a ministry from among those currently held by the UDMR, the leader of the liberals said that, at the moment, no "formal approach" had been taken.

"I understand by 'official' that a paper was formally signed, a request was made in an absolutely formal way. No formal approach was taken, there are no such discussions at the moment that would lead us to a decision. As such, there are discussions. (...) There are discussions that take place in this space of interpretations, on one hypothesis or another. At this moment, please trust the fact that we are people as responsible as possible and we will do it in such a way that to ensure the power-sharing of the government at the end of May," Ciuca also declared.

As for a possible exit from the government of UDMR, he said that it is a decision of each member of the coalition, emphasizing, however, that the agreed solution - of the coalition with UDMR and Social Democratic Party (PSD) - represents a matter of responsibility for the country.

"I think that UDMR, as well as PSD, together we should find that solution that was agreed, and is still agreed, once again, not for someone in particular, not for a party, not for one or two persons. It's a matter of absolute responsibility for the country," Ciuca said.

He pointed out that there are no blockages on the topic of rotation at the level of the Government leadership, when asked about this topic.

Nicolae Ciuca concluded that as long as the coalition parties are concerned "with what we have to solve at the Government, the way in which this power-sharing will be achieved is a transitory matter, which in two or three weeks, from here before, will end and we will continue to do our jobs," Ciuca explained.
