Romania took over the rotating Presidency of the EU Council having a firm pro-European conviction that will guide our country in advancing the community agenda, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila stated on Thursday in the plenary session of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Brussels.
"We started on this path led by a firm pro-European conviction that guides us in advancing the European agenda. Moreover, the Romanian citizens are among the citizens having the highest confidence in the European institutions, and even today, their aspirations and support for the EU remained solid and positive, a fact confirmed by the opinion polls," the Prime Minister said.
She underscored the role of the European Economic and Social Committee in acting as an intermediary between the decision makers and the citizens.
"I want to develop a tight cooperation in order to ensure that the solutions and decisions which are to be made during the Romanian Presidency at the EU Council are as close as possible to the citizens and our social realities," Dancila added.
The Romanian PM highlighted that the next six months represent a decisive period in which it must be demonstrated that the measures taken at European level bring concrete benefits to the citizens.
"It's necessary to listen to the citizens' voice regarding the direction that the EU will have to follow," Dancila also stated.
