Defence Minister Radu Miruta on Tuesday held talks at the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) headquarters with representatives of the Coordination Council of the association between General Dynamics European Land Systems Romania and Uzina Mecanica Bucuresti, focusing on the implementation of the contract for the acquisition of Piranha V 8x8 armoured personnel carriers and their derivatives, manufactured in Romania.
According to a Defence Ministry statement sent to AGERPRES, the minister stressed the importance of cooperation with the national defence industry in developing production capabilities in Romania and ensuring the logistical support needed for military equipment used by the Romanian Army.
"Cooperation is also essential for capitalising on opportunities to integrate the Romanian industry into European initiatives aimed at strengthening the defence industrial and technological base, including through the European Union's SAFE instrument," the minister said.
The meeting was part of a series of periodic consultations held by the leadership of the Ministry of National Defence with representatives of the defence industry and companies involved in major procurement programmes for the Romanian Army.
