Prime Minister-designate Adrian Vestea said on Friday that he had met the "future Finance minister," Alexandru Nazare, with whom he discussed the budget execution and the outlook for the coming months.
"I had a working meeting with the current and future Finance minister, Alexandru Nazare. I wanted continuity at the helm of one of the most important ministries, given the challenges we face in the coming months. I discussed with Mr Nazare the budget execution to date, the outlook for the coming months, as well as the concrete measures we will include in the governing programme. It is clear that we will need to continue on a path of fiscal prudence, especially when it comes to reducing state spending. At the same time, we must have a correct understanding of social and economic realities in order to restart consumption and regain lost confidence, as business representatives have also told us," Vestea wrote on Facebook.
According to him, the last month and a half of political crisis has not been good for Romania.
"This state of uncertainty at government level is likely to cause even greater damage if we do not manage to move out of a state of chaos. I strongly believe that everyone understands the need for the swift installation of a new legitimate Government, with full powers, capable of conducting credible dialogue both with domestic partners and with external ones," he underscored.
Vestea said he is convinced that, "after all the efforts made, no one wants Romania to be downgraded to 'junk' status by rating agencies amid the prolonged political crisis."
"Such a development would affect the economy, investments and the state's financing costs. Immediately after the vote of investiture, I will initiate a consistent dialogue with representatives of the business environment, Romanian and foreign investors, but also with representatives of the three major credit rating agencies, in order to strengthen confidence in Romania's economy and to avoid such a scenario," Vestea added.
He concludes with two "P.S." messages: "1. I know many people expect me to promise a 180-degree change. I will not do that. I will be a prime minister of balance and responsibility, at a time that is far from simple for the country. 2. I have never believed in the idea of 'after me, the deluge', but in the duty to do good for the country and the nation. And stability and a legitimate Government, with full powers, can do this better than the current formula."
