The National Liberal Party (PNL) does not give up on its own candidate for prime minister, does not accept being anyone's annex and clearly separates itself from the PSD, PNL vice-president Alexandru Muraru declared on Friday, according to Agerpres.
"Today, the PNL chose clarity, not ambiguity. In the extraordinary meeting of the National Political Bureau, we unanimously voted for two decisions that give Romania a real chance at a stable and pro-European government: we support a responsible PNL-USR-UDMR majority, with a mandate until April 2027, which will quickly adopt the reforms in the NRRP and the budgetary consolidation assumed towards the European Commission. The PSD remains, at this stage, in opposition - where its own lack of commitment led it in the crisis it caused. We propose to lead the Government a man with an undeniable European profile: Siegfried Muresan - the one who negotiated the European Union budget and European funds for Romania, a pro-European with professional credibility", Muraru wrote on Facebook.
According to him, the PNL quickly wants a stable government, "anchored in Europe".
"Our message is unequivocal: PNL is not giving up on its own candidate for prime minister and does not accept being anyone's appendage. We clearly delimit ourselves from PSD, we respect the parliamentary weight and the party's autonomy. And those who have violated the party's decisions will be replaced from their leadership positions - in PNL, discipline is not optional. We want a government quickly. We want a stable government. And we want it anchored in Europe, not improvised. Under the leadership of Ilie Bolojan, PNL is becoming again what it has always been at Romania's great moments: the party of responsibility," Muraru said.
President Nicusor Dan announced on Friday, after consultations, that the parties had returned to the "political deadlock", after PNL had committed on Tuesday to vote for a PSD minority government, but later changed its position.
PSD head Sorin Grindeanu declared that the social democrats are not submitting another proposal and conveyed to the "brave" PNL and USR that PSD is not afraid of the citizens' vote.
