The spokesperson of the Liberals, Ionut Stroe, stated on Wednesday that the first meeting of the negotiation committees of the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) for the merger of the two parties has taken place.
"The first meeting of the two negotiations committees took place today. I could appreciate that it was a very good start to these discussions, this idea of a merger between the two parties has advanced considerably and after the first meeting, of which I can say was a productive one, I can notify you that the visions of the two parties are harmonized, some joint objectives were set and a procedural path established, with both party management frameworks to validate it within their organizations, in order to have this merger congress of the two parties, as soon as possible. We, the PNL, are confident that after this meeting, probably next week, we can advance a date for the unification congress," said Ionut Stroe in a press conference at the headquarters of the PNL.
He also spoke of the discussions held by PNL and the People's Movement Party (PMP), showing that, from the point of view of the Liberals, they are still open.
"Still, discussions with PMP are open from our point of view. Truly, they are having a period of internal discussions, I won't comment on the situation in the PMP, on the other hand I can reaffirm the total openness on our part to continue these discussions, in order to finalize what we are calling the unification of all right-wing currents in Romanian politics this year," said Stroe.
