President Klaus Iohannis on Monday stated that Romania is prepared for "any scenario, for any measure" in relation to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, while he pleaded, at the same time, for the parties involved to approach the situation with calm.
"We are prepared for any scenario, for any measure, but we have the same opinion as our allies in NATO and our friends in the EU, that the parties involved need to approach the situation with calm and try to release the tension, so that the things easily turn to normality," said President Iohannis, at the Romanian Embassy in Paris, where he met with the representatives of the Romanian communities.
At the same time, the head of the state underscored that Romanians have no reason to worry.
"At this point, we are further watching how the situation unfolds and we are prepared to react accordingly, but Romanians have no reason to worry," assured Iohannis.
He also said he was informed about the development of the conflict since the very beginning and that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) standpoint has been established after consulting with the Presidency.
"Ever since it all started I requested to be informed about the entire development. Our intelligence services always kept me informed. An official standpoint on behalf of Romania has been released by the MAE after consulting with us first and we further watch, very closely and in real time the developments in Ukraine and the Kerch Strait area, where the incident took place," said Iohannis.
