President Klaus Iohannis on Friday conveyed a message on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Brasov higher education, stating that the 'Transylvania' University in Brasov is a center of excellence in research and a catalyst for the economic and social modernization of the entire region.
"Congratulations to the largest university at the geographical heart of Romania, as it marks seven decades of activity in the year of the Centennial. The 'Transylvania' University of Brasov, one of Romania's most important institutions of higher education, is a center of excellence in research and a catalyst for the economic and social modernization of the entire region. The establishment of the Forestry Institute in 1948 was a crucial first step in the transformation of Brasov into a university center worthy of the city's magnitude and historical and strategic importance," said the head state in the message delivered by state advisor Ligia Deca at the event organized by the 'Transylvania' University in Brasov and included on the agenda of the Rectors' National Council meeting.
The President's message goes on to say that Brasov's higher education has become a landmark in Romania's system of academic education.
"The 18 faculties of the 'Transylvania' University continue the scientific, industrial and cultural tradition of Brasov city, entwining the need for training and innovation in the relevant fields of activity. Today, the 'Transylvania' University is a good example of community involvement, and through its academic contributions it tackles the pressing challenges of the contemporary world such as sustainable development and environmental protection. By organizing events open to the Brasov public, your educational institution plays an essential role in maintaining an active intellectual life in the region, both in the cultural and scientific spheres. The conferences hosted by the university are opportunities to strengthen international collaboration in various branches of research and succeed in turning Brasov into a crucible for an intense exchange of ideas, which represents the quintessence of the process of academic life globalization that benefits the entire community. 'Transylvania' University holds all the aces to capitalize on the cooperation opportunities opened by EU's new higher education programs," said Iohannis.
The President also declared his conviction that the 'Transylvania' University is fully prepared to face the challenges of the future.
