Romania's President Klaus Iohannis on Thursday will be visiting the "Mihail Kogalniceanu" Administrative Center of Constanta to meet Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Petr Pavel, while on Saturday he will go to the Cincu firing range, Brasov County, for the Saber Guardian 2017 multinational defence exercise.
"On Thursday, Mr President Klaus Iohannis will be visiting the 'Mihail Kogalniceanu' Administrative Centre in Constanta to meet Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Petr Pavel. While there, he will also meet Romanian and British pilots stationed there to make sure an ongoing air policing mission is smoothly ran," presidential spokesperson Madalina Dobrovolschi said Tuesday.
She mentioned that throughout late August, four Eurofighter Typhoon airplanes plus 150 pilots and technical staff will make sure that an air policing mission in the southern area of NATO's eastern flank progresses smoothly.
"On Saturday, July 15, the President will be at the Cincu firing range in Brasov County, starting at 11:00hrs, EEST, for a joint multinational defence exercise called Saber Guardian 2017 that includes deployed troops and live ammo shootings," said Dobrovolschi.
She said Saber Guardian 2017is a complex multinational defence exercise conducted in Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria under the command of the US European Command and the Chief of the General Staff of the Romanian Army. It is carried out on a fictitious collective defence scenario to consolidate defence measures on NATO's eastern flank, advance Black Sea security and stability, strengthen partnership and mutual trust between the US and Romanian armed forces, attended by 21 NATO member and partner states.
More than 25,000 troops using over 2,000 pieces of military hardware are taking part in the Saber Guardian 2017 exercise.
