Working-age population (15-64 years) employment rate falls to 62.6% in 2025 Q4

The employment rate of Romania's working-age population (15-64 years) fell to 62.6% in the last quarter of 2025 compared with the previous quarter, a decline of 0.8 percentage points, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Monday.

According to the quoted source, in the fourth quarter of the previous year the employment rate of the population aged 20-64 stood at 68.5%, down compared with the previous quarter.

Thus, Romania's active population totalled 8.165 million people, of whom 7.651 million were employed and 513,900 were unemployed, agerpres reports.

The employment rate was higher among men (71.1%, compared with 53.9% among women) and among people living in urban areas (70%, compared with 54.7% in rural areas).

At the same time, the employment rate among young people (15-24 years) reached 16.7%.
