The first overseas polling station for the second round of the Romanian presidential elections opened in Auckland, New Zealand, on Friday, at 12.00 pm local time (1.00 am Romanian time). Polling stations in Australia (6), Japan (1) and other countries in the region will open next.
In the presidential election, overseas voting takes place over three days.
The voting schedule is Friday, December 6, between 12.00 pm and 9.00 pm local time, Saturday, December 7, and Sunday, December 8, between 7.00 am and 9.00 pm local time, with the possibility of extension until 11.59 pm on Sunday, for citizens who are at the headquarters or in line at the polling station.
All Romanian citizens with a right to vote can vote at polling stations organized abroad, based on a valid identity document issued by the Romanian authorities.
As many as 950 polling stations have been set up abroad. Their list, which also includes addresses, can be accessed at the link: www.mae.ro/sites/default/files/file/anul_2024/alegeri_2024/lista_sectii.pdf.
In the second round of the presidential election, Romanian voters have to choose between the top two finishers in the first round, respectively independent Calin Georgescu and USR's Elena Lasconi.
