Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan held a telephone conversation on Wednesday with Kazakh Prime Minister Oljas Bektenov on the security of Romania's crude oil supply.
According to a Government release, the talks focused on the operation of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) pipeline, a key infrastructure for Kazakhstan's oil exports and Europe's energy security.
Bolojan thanked the Kazakh authorities for their efforts to maintain crude oil flows to Romania and other European countries despite the recent incidents affecting the CPC infrastructure, according to Agerpres.
"(Ilie Bolojan) underscored that Romania has a direct interest in the uninterrupted operation of the pipeline, given that the Petromidia refinery processes a significant share of the crude oil imported from Kazakhstan, contributing to the stability of the domestic market and petroleum product exports. The two prime ministers agreed on the need to protect critical energy infrastructure and underlined that attacks against it must be condemned in order to prevent similar incidents from recurring and to ensure the continuity of crude oil supplies," the release said.
The talks also covered continued cooperation between Romania, Kazakhstan and their European partners to strengthen energy security and the resilience of strategic infrastructure.
Bolojan expressed Romania's appreciation for Kazakhstan's "balanced" and "responsible" approach to reducing regional tensions and promoting diplomatic solutions to the war in Ukraine, underscoring that the Central Asian country is a strategic partner of Romania.
The prime minister invited Oljas Bektenov to pay an official visit to Romania.
