Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan met on Tuesday at the Victoria Palace of Government with an OMV Petrom delegation, with the meeting focusing on the progress of the Neptun Deep offshore project, the company's investment plans and its role in ensuring Romania's energy security in the current regional context.

According to a government statement, OMV Petrom representatives presented the current stage of the project, emphasizing that the work is progressing according to schedule and in coordination with Romgaz.

"The company also confirmed that it maintains its commitment to investing in Romania, including in renewable energy projects and the development of biofuel capacities, thus contributing to the stability of energy supply," the statement said.

The discussions also addressed the expansion of exploration in the deeper offshore area of the Black Sea. In this context, officials reviewed the execution of the ANACONDA-1 drilling project, with particular attention to meeting the deadlines associated with existing obligations.

The prime minister voiced the government's interest in strengthening the partnership with the company and proposed that environmental responsibilities be assumed by the operator, in accordance with European principles.

"Regarding the onshore area, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan brought up the need for conditions that ensure a balance between investments and benefits for the state and citizens, so that Romania's resources are used as efficiently as possible, bringing advantages to both the company and the country," the release notes.

Regarding the fiscal and regulatory framework, the OMV Petrom management reiterated the need for predictability for long-term investments.

The prime minister also stated that the government is pursuing a fair balance: stability for the business environment, but also decisions that protect the interests of citizens, including access to energy at affordable costs.

The meeting ended with both parties agreeing to continue a pragmatic dialogue, so that major energy projects can move forward for the benefit of the economy and the people.

Also participating in the discussions were Mihai Jurca - Head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, presidential advisor Radu Burnete, and Adriana Petcu - President of the National Regulatory Authority for Mining, Petroleum and Geological Storage of Carbon Dioxide.
