Prosecutors have extended their investigation into a sea drone that exploded in the Port of Constanta, to include counts of destruction with particularly serious consequences, failure to comply with weapons and ammunition regulations, failure to comply with explosive material regulations, the Attorney General's Office announced on Tuesday.
On June 5, prosecutors with the Prosecutor's Office with the Constanta Courthouse started an investigation of their own after the presence of a military device was reported in the area of the Port of Constanta, with weapons on board and possibly explosives.
Subsequently, by ordinance, the case was taken over by the Prosecutor's Office with the Constanta Court of Appeal, ordering the start of a criminal investigation in rem alleging failure to comply with the weapons and ammunition regulations, failure to comply with explosive material regulations.
"From the ongoing on-site investigations, it resulted that around 06:30hrs, in the area of Fana 78 of the Port of Constanta, the existence of a capsized grey military boat of the type of maritime drones, was reported. The military boat, without inscription, had video surveillance systems and satellite communications antenna mounted in sight. Later, around 10:30hrs, it exploded. In this case, an on-site investigation was ordered and carried out, which is currently completed," the Prosecutor's Office said.
Under the ordinance of June 8, the criminal prosecution was extended to include destruction with particularly serious consequences, the counts of criminal failure to comply with weapons and ammunition regulations, and three counts of criminal failure to comply with explosive material regulations, in real concurrence.
