The National Council (CN) meeting of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) convenes on Sunday at the Palace of Parliament, in order to validate the new CN president and elect the chiefs of the specialised departments of the Social-Democrats.

The meeting is scheduled to start at 16:00hrs.

The PSD's CN meeting will convene after the new statue, being made up of MPs - senators, deputies, ministers, presidents of the county councils, mayors of the county seats, mayors of big cities, three mayors of the main communes of each county, leader of the League of Local County Elected, MEPs.

The meeting will validate the president of the National Council.

Mihai Fifor is the only candidate for this position, being already approved as interim president of the CN in a PSD's National Executive Committee (CExN) sitting.

Also established will be the 24 departments of the PSD, mirroring the ministries of the Romanian Government.

"The CN departments will meet on a weekly basis and the heads of the departments will also meet every week with the President of the National Council, depending on topical issues across the country. The departments will also be set up at territorial level, being made up of the best experts, the best specialists that the PSD has in all areas of activity: economy, healthcare, education, transport, tourism and so on. These meetings will also discuss issues raised by the civil society, trade unions, employers's associations, with the possibility of amending, supplementing some laws or creating new initiatives in the area that will ease Romanians' lives. There will also be debates on these topics, some in the presence of the mass-media," Secretary General of the PSD Codrin Stefanescu told AGERPRES on Friday.

The meeting on Sunday will also be attended by Justice Minister Tudorel Toader, according to the statement he made on Friday in Parliament.
