The Social Democratic Party (PSD) is calling on Ilie Bolojan to help form a responsible government, which would also give him the opportunity to correct the problems he himself created, PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu told the interim prime minister.
"Mr Bolojan, stop living in the past! Focus on the present and, above all, the future! Let me remind you. Your government has shown its limitations because it has focused solely on fostering poverty: higher taxes, ever-rising prices and lower incomes! What PSD is proposing is a change of approach: a genuine economic recovery, increased purchasing power for Romanians and a resumption of investment! That is what we are asking of you: to finally take part in forming a responsible government. You have the opportunity to correct the very problems you created!" Grindeanu said in a Facebook post on Monday evening, agerpres reports.
The PSD leader also called on the head of the National Liberal Party (PNL) to stop being a spectator and take responsibility for being "part of the solution, not standing outside it".
"You cannot talk about responsibility when you choose to remain a spectator. Romanians do not deserve to continue paying the price for political deadlock. Romanians have sacrificed enough! They now have the right to stop bearing the burden of absurd policies, just as they have the right to enjoy a predictable standard of living. They should no longer have to fear being unable to pay their bills, seeing their incomes fall or losing their jobs. The social experiment of the past two years must end! PSD is ready to join a new government on the basis of a programme that addresses these demands from society. A programme that can only be implemented with the support of a stable majority. This is not about PSD, Mr Bolojan! We have reached a point where every day lost makes the situation worse for everyone! You must take responsibility for being part of the solution, not standing outside it!" Grindeanu stressed.
Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan reiterated on Monday evening that PNL was willing to support the investiture of a government even if it did not participate in it, but would not govern alongside PSD again "because it refuses to lie to Romanians with solutions that cannot possibly work".
Bolojan also stressed in a Facebook post that "PNL will never attack solutions that are right for the country and will never break an agreement it has undertaken to honour".
"We have no chance of regaining Romanians' trust unless we respect one another and act responsibly. We are not PSD. We do not believe that governing for the country means being a 'sucker' or falling into a trap," the Liberal leader said.
