Procedures have already started for setting up a center for applied research, development and implementation for agriculture, that will operate near Bucharest, with funding from private sources, announced the president of the Association of Agricultural Producers' Associations in Romania (LAPAR), Nicu Vasile, in a statement sent to AGERPRES on Monday.

"The Association of Agricultural Producers' Associations in Romania - LAPAR and the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences" Gheorghe Ionescu-Sisesti" announce the development of the Public Private Partnership concluded in order to revitalize Romanian research in agriculture. (...) The purpose of this partnership, a first in Romanian agriculture, is to put together the needs of farmers and the challenges that await them in the future with the expertise and solutions that research can offer at the highest scientific level. We are at a time when we can and must decide what Community agriculture will look like in the coming years," reads the release.

At the same time, LAPAR also announced the establishment of a future collaboration with the EUROLINK - House of Europe Foundation, a non-governmental organization that carries out information and training projects in the field of European integration, founder of the International Honorary Chair "Jean Bart" CIO-SUERD, in partnership with the Romanian Academy. Executive President Sever Avram of EUROLINK - House of Europe was present.

The President of the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, Valeriu Tabara, mentioned the challenges that await Romanian farmers, such as a much more restrictive new Common Agricultural Policy in terms of the use of chemical inputs, the drought affecting the land, the farmers' access to the market and some lagging behind of the European agricultural research as compared to global research.

The participants in the press conference during which the partnership was announced discussed the financing of agriculture and investments in this essential field, alongside the need for a larger budget allocation for research, so that agriculture can adapt as quickly as possible to the dramatic climate change.
