Retail turnover up 3.1% as unadjusted series over the first seven months (statistics)

Retail turnover volume (excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles) rose in the first seven months of 2025 compared with the same period in 2024, increasing by 3.1% as unadjusted series and by 3.5% when seasonally and working-day adjusted series, shows data released Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Retail turnover volume (excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles), as unadjusted series, recorded an overall increase of 3.1%, January 1 to July 31, 2025, year-on-year, driven by higher sales of non-food products (+5.8%) and retail sales of vehicle fuels in specialized stores (+3.7%). In contrast, sales of food, beverages, and tobacco fell by 0.7%.

As seasonally and working-day adjusted series, retail turnover volume registered an overall increase of 3.5% over the same period, with non-food products up 6.8% and vehicle fuel sales up 2.5%, while food, beverages, and tobacco sales decreased slightly by 0.1%.

In July 2025 alone, the retail turnover, as unadjusted series, increased by 7.1% compared with June, on account of rises in retail fuel sales (+10.7%), food, beverages, and tobacco (+6.3%), and non-food products (+6.1%).

The adjusted retail turnover in July rose by 0.3% month-on-month, driven by fuel (+1.4%), non-food products (+0.6%), and food, beverages, and tobacco (+0.1%).

Year-on-year, the unadjusted retail turnover in July 2025 grew by 5.3% compared with July 2024, led by fuel sales (+11.5%), non-food products (+5.4%), and food, beverages, and tobacco (+1.8%).

The seasonally and working-day adjusted retail turnover for July 2025 showed an overall increase of 4.5% year-on-year, supported by fuel (+11.9%), non-food products (+5.8%), and food, beverages, and tobacco (+0.5%).
