The rise in the retirement age is set forth in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), Minister of European Investments and Projects Marcel Bolos declared at the Parliament on Tuesday, pointing out that the technical solution is for the Labor Ministry to come up with, and that a decision on this matter will be made by the governing coalition. Having in view that this is a benchmark with "an extremely high impact" on the population, things must be well thought out, Bolos emphasized.
He went on to say that the alignment of women's retirement age with that of men is also spelled out in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Asked about the benchmark providing for voluntary retirement up to the age of 70, the minister mentioned that "the benchmark provides for incentives to push up the retirement age to 70", which means that certain facilities are granted to those who have passed the retirement age and are still active on the labor market.
According to him, the Labor Ministry is currently working to finalize the benchmark related to special pensions, which is an "extremely difficult" and massive amount of work all relevant ministries are involved in.
The Social Democratic Party's Secretary general Paul Stanescu declared that the Social Democrats are opposed to the retirement age being raised, and the debate on this topic must be sorted out before it sparks other concerns for Romanians.
