The Department for Romanians Abroad (DRP) launched on Tuesday the "Romania, Closer to You" campaign, an in-house public information project dedicated to Romanians living outside the country's borders.
According to a DRP release, the campaign aims to facilitate access for Romanians abroad to accurate, clear, and up-to-date information and to promote official information sources, enabling them to more easily identify the services and institutions they need.
"Regardless of the distance, the bond with the home country remains deep, and the 'Romania, Closer to You' campaign was born precisely from the desire to turn this sentiment into tangible support. We want official information to reach people directly, in an accessible and clear format. We have partnered with several Romanian state institutions to provide simplified information rather than complicated procedures," stated Cristina-Lavinia Arnautu, the DRP official acting as State Secretary, as quoted in the release.
This initiative was conceived following an analysis of inquiries received by the DRP, which "highlighted the need for more effective information regarding the specific situations faced by Romanians abroad."
"The distance from Romanian institutions, as well as the differences between the legislative and administrative systems of their countries of residence, can make it difficult to identify solutions and the competent authorities," the Department explains.
The campaign's scope includes promoting official information sources used to clarify key issues affecting the lives of Romanians abroad. These include legal rights and obligations, with specific details on institutions offering support, as well as government opportunities and programs, including non-repayable funding schemes dedicated to the diaspora.
Furthermore, the project focuses on risk prevention and avoiding vulnerable situations in the labor market or legal matters, while also providing essential administrative guides for obtaining documents and simplifying remote interactions with Romanian authorities.
Carried out as an initiative of the Department for Romanians Everywhere, the information campaign is supported by the following institutional partners, who provide information resources and assistance: the Ministry of Internal Affairs; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Ministry of Labor, Family, Youth and Social Solidarity; the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; the Ministry of Education and Research; the Ministry of Health; the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism; the National Cyber Security Directorate; the Ministry of Investments and European Projects; the National Authority for the Protection of Child Rights and Adoption; the Save the Children Organization; the Romanian Red Cross; and the Investment and Development Bank. Campaign materials will be distributed through the official channels of the DRP and via Romanian associations abroad. To ensure the prepared guides and resources reach those who need them most, the DRP will collaborate closely with opinion leaders, the association sector, and mass media, the release informs.
"Romania, Closer to You" is an initiative of the Department for Romanians Abroad, running from September to December 2026. It will be conducted online, via digital platforms, social media networks, and institutional portals, as well as through the distribution of printed informational materials.
The campaign targets Romanian citizens living or residing abroad and aims to improve their access to accurate information, thereby strengthening trust in Romanian state institutions, combating disinformation, and reinforcing ties with Romania.
