The Romanian Embassy in Washington organized an event in the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday to celebrate 20 years since Romania joined NATO, with several democratic and republican members of the Congress from relevant committees for the consolidation of the Romania-USA Strategic Partnership, such as those for foreign relations and armed forces, taking part.
The congresspersons highlighted Romania's steadfast anchoring on the Euro-Atlantic path, shortly after leaving communism, and our country's indisputable support for American efforts in theaters of operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, including prior to joining the North Atlantic Alliance, the embassy shows in a Facebook post.
Brad Wenstrup, congressman from Ohio, evoked the moments when he fought alongside Romanian soldiers in Iraq, Thomas Kean, congressman from New Jersey, who visited Romania for the first time in 1988, appreciated the radical transformation of our country from Romania during Ceausescu to the strategic ally of the U.S., and Deborah Ross, US Representative for North Carolina and co-president of the friendship group with the Republic of Moldova, mentioned the importance of continuing our indispensable support for the European path of the neighboring country.
For his part, congressman Pat Fallon from the state of Texas, who visited Romania in April 2022, immediately after the launch of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, described Romania as "one of the most solid and reliable allies on the Eastern Flank", thanking for the continuous support given to Ukraine and recently reconfirmed by the decision to donate a Patriot system.
At the event, members of Romania's economic delegation to the Select USA Investment Summit, the largest forum for promoting trade and investment in the United States, were also present.
