The Ministry of National Defense purchased about 200 tons of medical supplies worth 15 million euros through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), the Ministry informs.
The materials intended to limit the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in Romania consist of: thermometers, surgical masks, FFP2 masks, goggles, coveralls, waterproof overcoats and aprons, footwear protection, surgical gloves.
According to the Ministry, the products will be paid for and brought to Romania in several stages, according to a delivery schedule spanning May to November 2020, coordinated with NSPA by the Navy General Staff and the Medical Directorate, with the support of the Defense General Staff.
The equipment was purchased through mechanisms specific to NSPA partnerships in order to speed up the procurement of the materials needed by the military units and medical facilities under the Defense Ministry's authority.
Following Romania's NATO accession in 2004, the Ministry of National Defense automatically became a member of the NATO Support and Procurement Organisation and can implicitly benefit from the services provided by the NSPA, the NSPO executive arm.
