Romanian Ambassador in Rome George Bologan was received on Wednesday by President of the Senate of Italy Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati; the two officials addressed topical issues regarding the need to reinvigorate the European project based on the fundamental values of the Union - solidarity, cohesion and the important need of providing common answers to common issues, the Romanian Embassy in Italy said in a release.
Bologan has also elaborated on the concept and relevance of parliamentary diplomacy among member states, including the role thereof in mediating and identifying practical answers for citizens on the one hand, and managing political crisis situations on the other hand.
The two interlocutors agreed that the European Union enjoys some of the world's highest living standards, as the European project generates welfare and development opportunities with visible effects on the population. This is also reflected in the motto of the upcoming Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU: "Cohesion, a common European value", which the Romanian diplomat presented at the meeting.
The transformation of the EU into a global actor is the joint responsibility of all member states, and the cooperation of Romania and Italy can make a significant contribution to this end, the release states. In this context, the sides approached topics such as securing the Union's borders, developing economic relations, transnational cooperation within NATO and the EU.
