Romania's Bernadette Szocs wins bronze medal in women's singles table tennis at 2017 Summer Universiade

Romanian athlete Bernadette Szocs on Tuesday won the bronze medal in the women's singles table tennis event at the Summer Universiade taking place in Taipei, after losing to Jihee Jeon (South Korea) in the semifinals, 4-0. Szocs brought the 11th and last medal for Romania in Taipei, with the others being three gold medals, two silver and six bronze.

Two gold medals belong to gymnast Larisa Iordache, who won them in the all around and floor events, another gold medal belongs to athlete Alina Rotaru, who won it in the long jump event, the silver medals belong to athletes Nicolae Alexandru Soare, won in the 10,000 event, and Alin Firfirica, discus throw event, with the bronze medals belonging to gymnasts Larisa Iordache (beam) and Andrei Munteanu (vault), athletes Andrei Gag (shot put) and Bianca Razor (400 m), the 4x400 women's relay race team, made up of Sanda Belgyan, Camelia Florina Gal, Anamaria Nesteriuc and Bianca Razor, and to Bernadette Szocs (women's singles table tennis event).

Romanian men's basketball team ranked 19th, after scoring 87-75 (25-16, 15-14, 18-16, 29-29) against Japan. The men's volley team ranked 15th, after scoring 3-1 (25-22, 17-25, 25-23, 25-17) against Hong Kong. The men's water polo team defeated South Africa by 17-11 (4-1, 5-5, 4-1, 4-4) ranking 13th in the end. Romania had 121 people participating in the 29th edition of the Taipei Summer Universiade, 91 of whom were athletes. The Romanian athletes competed in the athletics, dumbbell, table tennis, swimming, diving, men's basket, men's water polo, artistic gymnastics, fencing and judo events. Romania ranked 29th in the country ranking at the 2015 Summer Universiade, held in Gwangju (South Korea), after wining 1 gold medal, 3 silver and 3 bronze ones.
