Romania's Interior Minister Carmen Dan is attending, March 8-9, a meeting in Brussels of the EU's Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Council meeting.

According to a press statement released by the Interior Ministry (MAI), talks will focus on Common Defence and Security Policy (CSDP) missions/operations, European affairs agencies, the Passenger Name Record (PNR) Directive, the Western Balkans, home security and counter-terrorism, as well as interoperability of EU information systems and migration.

Dan will advocate for strengthening coordination between the internal security of the European Union and its external dimension.

She will express support for the implementation of the PNR system, which is considered an extremely important tool in the fight against terrorism and organised crime, according to MAI. In Romania, the National Passenger Information Unit has been operational since January 2016.

Dan will also reiterate Romania's "strong support" for deepening cooperation in the fight against organised crime, terrorism and extremism, as well as for enhancing border security and developing efficient migration management in the EU's neighbourhood.
