Romania to send 12 athletes to European Judo Championship in Warsaw

Romania will send 12 judokas to the 2017 European Judo Championships to be held in Warsaw, April 20-23.

According to the Romanian Judo Federation, Romania will compete in both men's individual and team events.

In the women's events, Romania will send four athletes to compete in two categories: Alexandra Pop and Monica Ungureanu in the 48-kg category and Andreea Chitu and Larisa Florian in the 52-kg category.

Competing in the men's events will be Laszlo Szoke (66 kg individual and team ); Alexandru Raicu and Marcel Cercea (73 kg individual); Vlad Visan and Elemer Szocs (81 kg); Cristian Bodarlau (90 kg); Daniel Matei (100 kg) and Daniel Natea (+100 kg).

Rounding up the Romanian delegation will be coaches Simona Richter, Gianina Andreica and Aurelian Fleisz; doctor Mirela Pop and masseur Mihai Hanas.

Romania's international judge Marius Jeberean has been selected by the European Judo Union to referee at the 2017 European Judo Championships.

Last year in Kazan, Russia, Romania won three bronze medals thanks to Monica Ungureanu, Andreea Chitu and Daniel Natea.
