Romania on Monday won silver in the junior men's sabre event at the Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships in Dubai after losing the final to Italy 45-41.
The Romanian team, made up of Mihnea Enache, Casian Cidu, Radu Nitu and Marco Sovar, led 35-31 when there were two more relays to be played, but Enache was overtaken by Edoardo Cantini 8-5, and the world vice-champion Pietro Torre defeated Nitu 6-1.
En route to the final, Romania defeated Canada, 45-31, Poland 45-42, Singapore 45-30, and Egypt 45-39.
In the junior women's sabre team event, Romania's Maria Alexe, Catinca Dumitru, Alexandra Mitrus and Ilinca Pantis ranked 14th, Agerpres.ro informs.
This silver is Romania's first medal at the championships in Dubai.
Romania has lined up 30 fencers for the Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships in Dubai, April 2-10.
