Over 100 servicemen from the Romanian Air Force will take part, between June 4 and June 15, in the Tobruq Legacy 18 ground-based multinational air defence exercise, underway in Hungary and Slovakia, announced Tuesday, through a press release, the Ministry of National Defence (MAPN).

According to the source, the Romanian servicemen will be present with a surface-to-air Hawk missile system and IAR-99 Hawk and MiG-21 Lancer aircraft.

The purpose of the exercise in which 19 NATO countries will take part, is to train the armed forces in planning, organizing and executing air defence operations in a complex multinational environment, as well as testing the degree of inter-operability in accordance with the specific procedures and standards.

"The new element for the Romanian Air Forces is the displacement of a subunit of surface-to-air missiles outside of the national territory, with personnel and technique, using almost all means of transportation - road, railway, but air as well."

The participation in the exercise is dedicated to the celebration of 45 years since the establishment of the 1st Surface to Air Missile Brigade "Nicolae Dascalescu."
