The Court of Accounts is a vital entity in ensuring the functioning of public institutions in Romania, and its role is that of "guardian of the public interest", said Senate President Nicolae Ciuca on Wednesday, informs Agerpres.
"I am glad to be here with you to honour the Romanian Court of Accounts, a fundamental institution of the Romanian state, guarantor of the good management of public money and genuine partner of Parliament. The Court of Accounts is a vital entity in ensuring the functioning of public institutions in our country, its role is that of guardian of the public interest, constantly ensuring that public finances are used correctly for the benefit of taxpayers, of all citizens. This is essential, especially in this period in which we are extremely attentive to public spending in which we cannot afford to waste the state's funds, namely those of the Romanians," Nicolae Ciuca affirmed at the event "Responsibility. Relevance. Resilience in a world of challenges", dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the establishment of the Romanian Court of Accounts.
According to the Senate president, the Court of Accounts is "a flagship institution", which not only controls, but also educates from a financial point of view, helping other institutions to be more efficient in the use of financial resources.
He also said that, in order to fulfill its mission as well as possible, the Court of Accounts is itself in a constant process of modernisation.
"The Court of Accounts of Romania understands that excellence is constantly being cultivated and that good practices are constantly being refined. Thus, financial control becomes more careful, the transparency of institutions in the use of public money increases, cases of abuse and corruption in public institutions are reduced. We, in the Romanian Parliament, appreciate the professionalism and dedication of the Court of Accounts expressed in the reports submitted to Parliament. The opinions and recommendations of the Court of Accounts help to streamline fiscal and budgetary policy. The expertise of the Court of Accounts is valued and, therefore, sought when we want to improve other aspects of public finances," the Senate president said.
Nicolae Ciuca also mentioned that the institution of the Court of Accounts of Romania has a "vocation" to collaborate with a wide range of institutions and individuals, from the President of Romania, Parliament and Government, to the academic world, the business world and non-governmental organisations, as well as with the institutions of justice, with representatives of professional bodies in the fields of finance, accounting and auditing, and with external partners.
"Romania's Court of Accounts can be proud of what it has achieved so far, of its reputation among Romania's public institutions, of the rigor and neutrality that it cultivates permanently. The Court of Accounts thus honours its mission, being a stable pillar of the Romanian state," Nicolae Ciuca added.
