Romanian tennis player Gabriela Ruse qualifies for the second round of Miami Open (WTA)

Romanian tennis player Gabriela Ruse qualified for the second round of the Miami Open tournament (WTA 1,000), with a total prize pool of 8,963,700 US dollars, after defeating Russian Polina Kudermetova, 6-1, 6-7 (5/7), 6-2.

Ruse (27 years old, 102 WTA), who came from the qualifiers, sealed her victory after almost two hours of playing (1 h 58 min).

Ruse won a cheque of 35,260 US dollars and 65 WTA points, and in the second round she will face Polish Magdalena Frech (27 years old, 27 WTA), whom she leads 2-1 in direct matches.

Ruse won in 2016, in Koksijde (Belgium), with 7-6 (7/5), 7-6 (7/5), Frech got her revenge in 2020, in the first round in Prague, with 7-6 (10/8), 6-3, but the Romanian won in 2022, in Sydney, with 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Also on Tuesday, Sorana Cirstea defeated Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the first round, 6-3, 7-6 (7/5), and will face defending champion American Danielle Collins in the second round.
