Romanian tennis player Miriam Bulgaru qualified on Thursday for the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 tournament in Buenos Aires, with total prize money of 115,000 dollars, after defeating Argentina's Maria Carle 7-6 (7/4), 6-3.

Bulgaru (27 years old, WTA's 219th) prevailed after more than two hours of play (2 h 03 min) against the seventh seed.

Carle (25 years old, WTA's 137th) led 2-0 and 4-2 in the first set but Bulgaru came back, levelled and sent the set to a tiebreak, where Carle again led 2-0 yet the Romanian won 7-4.

Miriam Bulgaru secured a cheque for 4,000 dollars and 27 WTA points and will face Hungary's Panna Udvardy (27 years old, WTA's 107th), the third seed, in the quarterfinals. Udvardy won their only previous encounter 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 last year in the first round in Prague.
