Rehabilitation works on the Giurgiu-Ruse Friendship Bridge resumed on Tuesday on the Bulgarian side, meaning traffic will once again be carried out on a single lane.
During the Easter holidays, in order to ease traffic flow, circulation was allowed on both lanes.
"The Giurgiu Territorial Inspectorate of the Border Police informs road users that, starting from the morning of Tuesday, 14 April 2026, repair works on the Bulgarian side of the Giurgiu-Ruse Friendship Bridge have been resumed. Under these conditions, road traffic is being carried out alternately, on a single lane, with traffic directed at equal time intervals for each direction of travel," according to a press release the Giurgiu Territorial Border Police Inspectorate issued on Tuesday.
The Road Infrastructure Agency of the Republic of Bulgaria announced in July 2024 the start of major repair works on the bridge over the Danube, which are expected to be completed this year.
