The Kalina vocal group from Reni, Odessa region, Ukraine, and the founding vocal group Zadunaiska Sici, Tulcea county, Romania, have started rehearsals in a hybrid format for a show scheduled for the end of next month, as part of the project "Tulcea - Micto/Misto, Where Borders Speak the Same Language".
The project is financed by the Tulcea City Hall, began in the first part of the year and was initiated by the Solidaritatea Ro-Ua association, with the aim of promoting the traditions of minorities, implicitly the integration into the community of people from Ukraine who left the country, due to the war triggered by Russia.
Several workshops were held as part of the project, during which children, members of several nationalities, met and talked about the customs they preserve.
"There were workshops not only for Ukrainians. We had a gastronomic workshop, where we made vareniki, and children from different minorities came in their traditional costumes and studied their costumes," said Lilialana Gologan, president of the Solidaritatea Ro-Ua association.
During this period, as part of the project, online rehearsals are taking place for the show scheduled for the end of next month, at the end of the project, in Tulcea, during which the vocal groups Kalina from Reni, Odessa region, Ukraine, and Zadunaiska Sici, from Tulcea county, Romania, will be performing old songs.
"We came into possession of an old book with songs that we lost, and we are now trying to restore those that we do know. We have more than 100 songs, but little by little we will manage to bring together the entire heritage," said Mirela Munteanu, member of the Tulcea branch of the Union of Ukrainians in Romania and of the founding vocal group Zadunaiska Sici.
A brochure about the traditions preserved by the Ukrainian community in the Tulcea county will also be launched at the end of the project.
