Romanian-German duo Victor Cornea/Andre Begemann on Wednesday progressed to the quarterfinals of the Sassuolo Challenger tennis tournament in Italy, prize pool EUR 148,625, after defeating Filip Bergevi (Sweden)/Mick Veldheer (Netherlands) 6-4 6-2.
It took N.4 Cornea-Begemann an hour and 14 minutes to prevail, in a match in which the opponents had no chance of a break.
Initially, Cornea and his partner were supposed to play Argentinean double Roman Andres Burruchaga/Federico Coria, who withdrew due to medical problems.
For their performance so far Cornea and Begemann won EUR 1,750 and 25 ATP doubles points, and in the quarterfinals, they will play Japanese Toshihide Matsui/Kaito Uesugi.
