The sales of travel agencies for the 1 May holiday were higher by 12 percent compared to last year, and 42 percent of the tourists have bought packages for Romanian seaside resorts, according to a release of the National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT) sent to agerpres. on Tuesday.
Mamaia and Vama Veche, Valea Prahovei and Baile Felix resorts have attracted most tourists, who bought from travel agencies two-night packages, worth between 135 and 800 lei per person, depending on the hotel they chosen.
The ANAT data reveal that on the seaside, approximately 70-80 percent of hotels were opened on 1 May, and the occupancy rate was 100 percent in Mamaia and Vama Veche, followed by Neptun and Mangalia resorts, the holiday packages being bought in an overwhelming proportion since they were put out for sale.
"Sales for the 1 May holiday were higher by 12 percent compared to last year. A number of 42 percent of tourists who have chosen Romania for their 1 May holiday, purchased packages for the Romanian seaside. Overall, through travel agencies and individual, the seaside attracted on this occasion over 40,000 people.
On the spa segment, the Baile Felix resort recorded most tourists, followed by Calimanesti-Caciulata and Sovata resorts and in Valea Prahovei the occupancy rate was 75-80 percent, the tourists preferred Sinaia and Busteni resorts.
Over 10,000 tourists chose the Bulgarian resorts, the spa resorts in Hungary or European capitals, for three-days vacations, with a value between 120 and 500 euro per person and Antalya, Dubai or Sharm El Sheikh for a week, starting 490 euros per person.
The Romanian seaside is also the main destination for the summer vacation, the ANAT data at the end of Early Booking period revealed a high number of reservations. Overall, the increase of vacations' sales in Romania and abroad, in the Early Booking period is 30 percent compared to the similar period of last year.
For a vacation at the seaside, as a first this year, the tourists around the country have direct flights to Constanta, which are included in their vacation packages.
"Many of the packages for Romania have been bought in the Early Booking period with vacation vouchers. This year we expect the amount to be higher, around 400 million euros compared to the 10 million euros recorded last year, if the state employees will also receive, starting 1 July, vouchers worth 1,450 lei per person. Therefore, domestic tourism might record an increase of at least 20 percent in 2017," President of the ANAT Alin Burcea stated.
In the Early Booking period, most of the reservations for holidays abroad were made for Spain, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Italy and Portugal, Romanians having at their disposal charter and liner flights from Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Arad, Timisoara, Iasi, Suceava and Oradea.
This season's novelties are Gran Canaria, Kos and Ischia.
