Senate President Mircea Abrudean congratulated Igor Grosu over the phone on Thursday on his re-election as Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
"Today I called Igor Grosu, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, to congratulate him on his re-election to this office and on the start of the new Parliament in Chisinau. I conveyed Romania's full support for the continuation of the European path of the Republic of Moldova, a goal that brings more stability, security and prosperity to all its citizens," Abrudean wrote on Facebook, stressing that "Romania and the Republic of Moldova are increasingly connected through concrete projects and a common European vision - from the new Bumbata - Leova bridge, to economic and social partnerships that bring the two banks of the Prut even closer."
Igor Grosu, the leader of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS, pro-presidential), which won a new parliamentary majority in the September 28 vote, was elected Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova with 55 votes of the deputies, while his opponent Alexandr Stoianoglo, proposed by the Alternativa Bloc, only garnered 32 votes, Radio Chisinau and Radio Moldova report.
Igor Grosu, a Bachelor of History, former Deputy Minister of Education between 2012-2015 and Speaker of Parliament between 2021 and 2025, thanked his colleagues for "putting their trust in him."
