Romania is ready to act as a guarantor of energy security, once the Neptun Deep offshore project enters production, next year, Senate President Mircea Abrudean highlighted on Wednesday at the Three Seas Initiative (I3M) Parliamentary Summit in Croatia.

"I congratulate Croatia for the leadership role it plays within the Three Seas Initiative and for the excellent organisation of this parliamentary summit. Romania fully endorses Croatia's presidency and remains committed to actively contribute to a result-oriented agenda of the Three Seas Initiative. In the current geopolitical context, it is increasingly becoming a strategic platform for resilience, security, competitiveness and regional cohesion. This evolution is not only natural, but necessary. The war in Ukraine, the attacks on the critical infrastructure, the disruptions in supply chains and increasing geopolitical fragmentation proved that connectivity is not just an economic issue, but a strategic and security imperative," Abrudean said within the plenary parliamentary Session held at the National and University Library in Zagreb.

He underscored that funding remains essential for the future credibility of the Three Seas Initiative.

"We are confronted with the war in Iran. An unprecedented crisis which clearly affects global oil and gas supply chains. After more than a decade, the Initiative must firmly be focused on concrete results. Strategic ambition must be accompanied by practical results: faster transmission corridors, stronger energy interconnections and a more competitive digital ecosystem. Funding remains essential for the future credibility of the Initiative. Ambition regarding connectivity, without a solid funding framework risks of remaining just lines on a map. Romania takes investments in our region seriously. This is why, our country contributed to the Investments Fund of the Three Seas Initiative and the newly created Innovation Fund, supporting business development both at regional and domestic level," Abrudean added.

The Senate President argues that "Parliaments play an essential role, as they can support the adoption of national budgets designed for strategic infrastructure, encourage the harmonization of regulations and contribute to communicating the added value of the initiative to citizens."

"Romania continues to prioritize the projects with a clear strategic impact. Rail2Sea and Via Carpatia remain extremely relevant, not only for civilian mobility, but also for military mobility, commercial flows and connectivity with the Black Sea region. Romania is ready to act as a guarantor of energy security, once the Neptun Deep offshore project enters production next year. At the same time, strengthening connectivity with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine remains a priority. For us, the resilience and competitiveness of the Three Seas region are inextricably linked to those of the European Union as a whole. This aspect will be highly important in the context of the future Multiannual Financial Framework. Last, but not least, one thing must remain clear: we must ensure that the Three Seas region develops a coherent internal connectivity offer and a secure regional infrastructure base," Abrudean conveyed.

Senate President Mircea Abrudean is on a visit to Croatia, where he is participating in the Three Seas Initiative (I3M) Parliamentary Summit in Zagreb and has several bilateral meetings on his agenda.
