Romania's constant contribution to regional security, the firm commitment to protecting the borders of the European Union and NATO and the respect of all obligations assumed within the North Atlantic Alliance were highlighted, on Wednesday, by the Speaker of the Romanian Senate, Mircea Abrudean, in the meeting with the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Mike Johnson.
According to a Senate's release posted on the institution's website, before leaving for the United States to participate in the Parliamentary Security Forum organized in the U.S. Congress, Abrudean had a consultation with President Nicusor Dan on important topics to address for Romania.
At the meeting with Mike Johnson, the importance of maintaining the political support of the United States for the security of NATO's Eastern Flank and for consolidating stability in the Black Sea region was highlighted.
"The strategic partnership with the U.S. is a central pillar in Romania's defense strategy. It is the foundation on which we build to have measurable results not only in securing borders and protecting NATO's Eastern Flank, but also in the economy, by expanding cooperation in other areas of interest such as the defense industry, energy, or innovative technologies," said Mircea Abrudean, quoted in the press release.
The Senate speaker conveyed his appreciation for the constant support offered by the United States to Romania in the field of security and reaffirmed Romania's status as a solid ally and reliable partner in the region.
"The meeting with the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives reflects the high level of political-parliamentary dialogue between the two states. As the leader of one of the most influential legislative institutions globally, Mike Johnson plays an essential role in shaping the strategic directions of bilateral cooperation and support for the allies of the United States. The dialogue at this level reconfirms the importance of the Romanian-American relationship and the constant political support for strategic projects of common interest," the said press release reads.
The Senate Speaker Mircea Abrudean is participating between February 3-6 in the Interparliamentary Security Forum organized in Washington DC.
