The structural integrity of the apartment block in the Drumul Taberei neighbourhood, where a crack was reported between the building's stairwells, has not been affected, according to specialists from the State Inspectorate for Constructions (ISC).
Following the assessment, residents were allowed to re-enter the building, the Bucharest-Ilfov Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISUBIF) reported, agerpres reports.
The Bucharest Municipal Committee for Emergency Situations held an extraordinary meeting on Saturday to establish a coordinated set of measures for the local authorities to implement in response to the incident. The decision is due to be published on the official website of the Bucharest Prefect's Office.
Residents of an eight-storey apartment block containing 36 flats in Bucharest were evacuated on Saturday after a crack was reported between two stairwells.
Bucharest City Hall maintains that the crack has existed for nine years and was caused by problems with the building's sewerage system rather than poor construction quality, according to the Bucharest City Hall (PMB).
The municipality also says that the building underwent two technical assessments, one in 2017 and another in 2020. Under the technical standard P100-3/2019, the costs of strengthening the building were to have been covered through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), but the residents refused the works because they would have had to move out of the building.
