The Sibiu State Philharmonic will host, for the first time on Monday evening, a conference dedicated to music therapy, presented by Angelica Postu, Romania's first accredited music therapist, who has professional experience in Spain, Belgium and Germany, the institution's spokesperson, Paul Nan, told AGERPRES.
According to the source, "The Effects of Music on the Human Mind and an Introduction to Music Therapy: From Experience to Science" conference will begin at 7 p.m. in the Henry Selbing Hall of the Sibiu State Philharmonic as part of the International Carl Filtsch Competition and Festival (6-11 June), agerpres reports.
"This is the first time that the Sibiu State Philharmonic has hosted an event dedicated to music therapy. (...) The leading promoter of music therapy in Romania, Angelica Postu, was born in Bucharest and studied piano at the National University of Music while also graduating from the Faculty of Psychology. After obtaining a master's degree in piano performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels, she decided to pursue her dream of completing a master's degree in music therapy at the Berlin University of the Arts, thereby combining her musical passion and interests with psychology and becoming Romania's first accredited music therapist. In 2017-2018, she was a co-therapist in the Asperger Band Project, which was supported and organised by the Berlin University of the Arts. Since 2017, she has been the first Romanian member of the German Music Therapy Association (Deutsche Musiktherapeutische Gesellschaft). As a music therapy practitioner, she has gained experience in Spain, Belgium and Germany," Paul Nan said.
The conference will provide an accessible introduction to the field of music therapy, beginning with artistic experience and progressing to the research and scientifically validated methods currently used in the discipline.
The event will explore the effects of music on emotions, memory and human behaviour, as well as the role of music therapy in supporting emotional wellbeing and personal development.
"As President of the Romanian Music Therapy Association, Angelica Postu works continuously to promote the theoretical and practical foundations and methods of the Western school of music therapy, which has a tradition spanning more than 60 years, as a practitioner, trainer and speaker. At the same time, combining her background in psychology with her experience as a concert pianist, Angelica Postu prepares and advises musicians in matters of personal development, understanding and managing emotions, stage presence and career-related concerns. Through conferences and workshops dedicated to musicians' wellbeing, Angelica Postu aims to raise awareness of the importance of self-care and wellbeing in preventing the development of emotional disorders," the representative of the Sibiu State Philharmonic added.
The conference will also address the specific challenges of artistic life and the importance of psychological balance in musicians' professional careers.
