Swimming: David Popovici wins by far the 100 m freestyle event of National Chamionships

Double world champion David Popovici won the 100m freestyle event on Thursday, on the first day of the National Short Course Swimming Championships (25 metres) in Otopeni.

The athlete attached to the Dynamo sports club scored a time of 46 sec 62/100, being almost two seconds faster than the next ranked, Andrei Ungur (CSM Brasov), who scored 48 sec 42/100. The podium was completed by Patrick Sebastian Dinu (CS Farul Constanta), 48 sec 62/100.

The victories achieved by Aissia Claudia Prisecariu (14 years old) in the 100 m backstroke and Robert Andrei Badea (15 years old) in the 200 m backstroke are also worth noting.

Maysa Ratiu (attached to the CSA Steaua sports club) won two national titles, in the 400m freestyle and the 4x50m freestyle relay.

Swimmers David Popovici and Robert Glinta, both from CS Dinamo sports club, are preparing for the World Short Course Championships in Melbourne (December 13-18). Popovici already has a European short course title that he won in 2021 in Kazan (Russia), and Glinta is the European vice-champion in 100 m backstroke (2021) and bronze medalist in 100 m backstroke, as he won the respective events at the 2021 World Championships in Abu Dhabi.
