Tennis: Andreea Mitu qualifies for round of 16 in Prerov
Romanian tennis player Andreea Mitu qualified on Wednesday for the final round of the USD 60,000 ITF tournament in Prerov (Czech Republic) after the withdrawal of her compatriot Alexandra Candatu-Ignatik, at 5-2 in the first set, told Agerpres.
Mitu (31, WTA's 535th), a qualifier, was declared winner after 42 minutes.
Cadantu (22, WTA's 250th) had won the first three duels with Mitu.
Andreea Mitu, who in the qualifiers beat Czech Tereza Krejcova 6-2, 6-2 and Italian Diletta Cherubini 6-3, 6-1, will play in the round of 16 against Italian Angelica Moratelli.
In doubles, Andreea Mitu and Czech Renata Voracova, the number four seeds, qualified for the quarterfinals after a 7-5, 6-1 win over German pair Tayisiya Morderger/Yana Morderger.
In the quarterfinals, Mitu and Voracova (39) will play against Karolina Kozakova (Switzerland)/Kristyna Tomajkova (Czech Republic).
Also on Wednesday, in the first singles round, Andreea Prisacariu (23, WTA's 346th) was defeated by Russian Daria Astahova (21, WTA's 191st) 2-6, 6-1, 6-0.
