Romanian tennis player Gabi Adrian Boitan on Thursday qualified for the quarterfinals of the Drummondville (Canada) challenger tournament, which has a total prize pool of 100,000 US dollars, after defeating American Andrei Ilagan, 6-4, 7-6 (7/5).
Boitan (26 years old, ATP's 333rd), 8th seed, won the match after one hour and 47 minutes of playing against a 24-year-old opponent, ranked 342 in the world, agerpres reports.
In the first round, Boitan won against another American, Samir Banerjee (22 years old, ATP's 349th), 6-4, 6-4.
Boitan secured a check for 2,890 US dollars and 12 ATP points for reaching this far in the competition, and in the quarterfinals he will face Canadian Duncan Chan (20 years old, 1,440 ATP).
