Tennis: Jianu, Jecan and Pavel all achieve victories at challenger tournament in Maia, Portugal

Romanian tennis players Filip Jianu, Alexandru Jecan and Bogdan Pavel won their respective matches on Wednesday at the challenger tournament in Maia (Portugal), which has total prizes of 145,250 euros.

Filip Cristian Jianu (24 years old, 286 ATP) defeated Portuguese Jaime Faria (22 years old, 152 ATP), seed no. 2, 7-5, 6-3, in the first round of the singles tournament, after playing for hour and 35 minutes, agerpres reports.

The Portuguese managed 10 aces, but also committed 4 double faults, agerpres reports.

Jianu won a cheque of 2,450 euros and 7 ATP points, and in the round of 16 he will face Spaniard Carlos Sanchez Jover (25 years old, 336 ATP), who came from the qualifiers.

In the doubles event, Jecan and Pavel defeated Franco Agamenone (Italy)/Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo (Spain) in the first round, 7-6 (7/4), 6-2, in one hour and 13 minutes. The Romanians also won against the Italian-Spanish pair earlier this month, in Montemar (Spain), in the first round of that respective competition, 6-3, 6-4.

Jecan and Pavel won a cheque worth 1,470 euros and 20 ATP points in doubles each, and in the quarterfinals they will face Serbian twins Ivan and Matej Sabanov. The Romanians won the first match this year of the two pairs, which took place in Vicenza (Italy), 6-1, 6-4, in the first round.
