The tribute collection "The First World War and the Great Union of Romanians", published by the University Publishing House and consisting of six volumes, was launched on Wednesday at the Gaudeamus Book Fair.

Brigadier General (r) Grigore Buciu said that this collection represents "a spiritual monument" erected in memory of those who fell in the Great War for the unification of the country and for the union of Romanians.

"This hexalogy, these six books contain all the sacrifice of the heroes. All those who died, almost 700,000 soldiers, for this achievement of the Great Union, the desire of the Romanians, 430,000 civilians, not to mention typhus, the biggest epidemic of until then, which caused 300,000 victims, 350 medical doctors died from typhus in the First World War, all this sacrifice is put in these volumes, which begin with the entry of Romania, in 1916, into the war and ending like an apotheosis with the coronation on October 15, 1922 of the sovereigns of Romania, Ferdinand and Queen Maria. It is a fabulous work," said Florin Epure, Executive Director of the Valcea County Culture Directorate, adding that 120 researchers from various fields wrote on the pages of the volumes: teachers, historians, hierarchs, priests, lawyers, geographers, archivists or generals and war veterans.

The initiator and coordinator of the project is the historian Eugen Petrescu, founding director of the Historical Research Center Priest Dumitru Balasa of the Regina Maria Cult of Heroes National Association.

"The First World War and the Great Union of Romanians" includes historical studies and articles, documents, interviews, totaling over 4,400 pages, devoted to memorable events: Romania's entry into the First World War in 1916, the battles of Marasti, Marasesti, Oituz in 1917 , the Great Union of Romanians in 1918, the participation of the Romanian Army in the campaign against Bolshevism in Hungary, the Peace Treaty with Hungary at Trianon in 1920 and the Royal Coronation in 1922.AGERPRES
