Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan declared on Wednesday that the listing of minority stakes in state-owned companies on the stock exchange is one of the milestones that Romania has assumed through the PNRR, specifying that companies in the energy and transport sectors will certainly be listed.
He responded in this way when asked at a press conference at the Victoria Palace at what stage the process regarding the listing of minority stakes in state-owned companies on the stock exchange is, considering, among other things, that this type of sale could bring quick income to the state budget.
"It is one of the milestones that Romania has assumed. These milestones are being negotiated by MIPE with the Commission's representatives and I estimate that during October, by mid-October, they will be finalized. One of the milestones is this one and, personally, I am a supporter of listing companies and selling minority stakes, I emphasize, minority, in such a way that, on the one hand, we have a capital contribution, but, on the other hand, we ensure better management of these companies. Because, for example, even if the Court's ruling on the corporate governance package was postponed, I used my authority during this period and did not approve the budgets of the companies that must be approved by the Government until they have reduced their compensations established in the boards of directors. And only when they are reduced will they be approved in the Government, in so that, if they don't want to be ashamed of at least doing this, they should do it, how can I say, out of bureaucratic constraint. (...) Listing is one of the important elements for better management of public companies, for capital to be invested in these companies, so that projects for their development or expansion can be generated", said Ilie Bolojan.
The prime minister was asked if more details on this subject would be known by the end of October.
"The stage lasts between six months and a year, the listing component, but there will certainly be companies from the energy and transport sectors that will be listed", said Bolojan.
