Social Democratic Party (PSD) President Marcel Ciolacu said on Thursday that he supports sanctions against the Russian Federation, but will not agree with measures that affect Romanian employees, adding that the TMK Artrom plant in western Resita is facing severe problems generated by the "erroneous way" in which certain state authorities interpret the application of sanctions against Russian oligarchs, Agerpres reports.
"PSD supports sanctions against the Russian Federation, but we will never agree with measures that affect Romanian employees, jobs and, in general, the national economy. After the situation at the factory in Slatina, it is the turn of the Resita factory of TMK Artrom to face severe problems generated by the erroneous way in which certain state authorities interpret the application of sanctions against the Russian oligarchs. I call again on the Interinstitutional Council responsible for the application of these measures to understand that the activity of the companies on which the lives of thousands of Romanian families depend must continue, the people must receive their salaries, and the families of these employees do not suffer," Ciolacu wrote on Facebook.
He added that the purpose of the sanctions is that the money produced in Romania should not reach the Russian Federation, not leave thousands of Romanians without a job.
"It is unacceptable to allow companies to pay for old contracts, but not to be able to sell the goods produced in the last month! I hope that the Government will once again find the patience and determination to draw inspiration from the European solutions so that the application of the sanctions has as few negative consequences as possible on the employees and the national economy. This is the only logical way in which Romania must react," he said.
